Mission Statement

Good Shepherd Preschool operates with a LOC through the Maryland State Department of Education. We are licensed to care for a daily total of 64 children, ages 2-13.
Our purpose is to serve working families by caring for children in a safe, loving and Christian atmosphere. Our mission is to provide every child with a quality early childhood experience. We strive to provide a learning experience that is creative, nurturing, structured, and reflective to children of their great worth to God with prayer and reflection. Children will learn how to share, take turns, use manners and show respect for themselves and others, and build relationships. Kindergarten readiness is also a focus of our program and daily activities are intentional and developmentally appropriate covering all domains of learning. Lessons and activities are adapted through a state approved preschool curriculum to meet both the individual child and classroom need. Our qualified, engaged staff views early childhood as a meaningful experience that lays the foundation for lifelong learners. It is our desire to become partners with parents/guardians of each child to foster their early learning and grow together.

Good Shepherd Staff
We pride ourselves in the fact that our teaching staff continues to remain the same with little changes. We offer children an environment of consistency, normalcy, and routine. With a combined total of 29 years experience in this Center, children feel welcome and content in their childcare setting. Our early childcare professionals include; Director-January Souders, Assistant Director-Tera Swisher, Teacher-Kathy McCarty, all of whom have received their Credential through the Maryland State Dept. of Education.  Our aides / seasonal staff are made up of college students and former preschool staff.

Events
Throughout the school year, Good Shepherd has a variety of preschool events, field trips, and classroom visitors. We also hold monthly birthday parties and holiday parties/activities. We are actively involved with the community, participating in both the Canal Apple Days, and Halloween parades with floats representing the school. At the annual Barge Bash and National Night Out we set up an information and game booth, making our community aware of early childcare. GSP has also adopted its own mission – St. Jude. We hold a Trike-a-Thon annually where children ride their bikes in honor of the hospital and its young patients. Every cent collected by the children is donated for research. This event has become a huge local event and has attracted many corporate sponsors. Summers at GSP are just as exciting! We offer swimming, nature walks, daily crafts, games, field trips, and special guest visitors.
